Our history: How did it all begin?
In 1981 Avel·lí Xalabarder and Gertrudis Torrents took over the reins, turning the pharmacy into a pioneer of research and development for new products in all medical disciplines through compounded preparations.
Driven by their interest and passion for cosmetics, in 1982 they built their own laboratory at the pharmacy, where they created innovative and exclusive compounded preparations at the request of doctors and hospitals in Catalonia, thus laying the foundations for what TOSKANIMED would later become.
Based on their firm commitment to innovation, formulas by Avel·lí and Gertrudis were designed to provide medical professionals with a wide range of solutions, such as injectables, transdermal mesotherapy and cosmetic products to treat dermatological and/or aesthetic concerns.
At the same time, during the 1980s they created the first cosmetic products in response to the growing needs of the aesthetic market, showing a complete dedication to service. These were the first foundations of what would later become Toskani Cosmetics in 1994, now known as TOSKANI: the pharmaceutical-quality cosmetics brand.
Thanks to the knowledge, experience gained, and successes achieved, TOSKANI began its global expansion in the late 1990s.
In 2016 the first TOSKANI Educational Centre opened its doors in Barcelona, with the aim of adding value by providing specific training programmes based on the needs of aesthetic professionals and their clients.
In 2018 we obtained the ISO 13485 certification and opened our first in-house Clinical Trial Centre with highly innovative tools, such as Quantificare®. These tools allow us to measure different parameters such as melanin, flaccidity, firmness and elasticity indices; volume and skin relief assessments (wrinkles, pores, scarring); erythema, as well as epidermal hydration and superficial sebum levels, thus guaranteeing results with proven clinical efficacy.
In 2019 we created our first CE-certified injectable product made with non-cross-linked hyaluronic acid: TKN HA 3, the next-generation biorevitaliser.
Thanks to the trust of our clients, TOSKANI continues to grow at a double-digit annual rate, and at the end of 2019 we opened new offices in Barcelona with facilities spanning almost 3,000m2. This is where we continue to keep alive the commitment and passion we feel as part of the family.
In 2021 TOSKANI’s recently extended historic headquarters were renovated as a result of the company’s continued solid growth.
TOSKANIMED was created to provide a personalised response to medical professionals and patients, combining cutting-edge solutions with tradition: a CE-certified product portfolio and a return to the origins of compounded preparations, talking them to the next level.

TOSKANI is present in over 70 countries, and with TOSKANIMED we are committed to working with doctors and patients to offer innovative treatments with results backed by clinical studies to ensure they can correct, treat and prevent facial, body and hair concerns with the highest quality and safety standards, in line with the specific legislations of each country.
Social responsibility
TOSKANI contributes to developing health and medical advances in the Gambia, with the first pharmaceutical manufacturing plant in Brikama.
Founded by Avel·lí Xalabarder, the company currently manufactures five medicines with the aim of ensuring an adequate supply and preventing a shortage in the country, creating a sustainable pharmaceutical industry that is affordable to the local population.
Since 2006, Toskani has been working with West Africa to provide basic and essential medicines to its population.
